Best IGTV Channel Video Apps
First, if you don’t know what IGTV is, no worries. It’s the new TV feature Instagram has added in an effort to rival YouTube.
My IG friend Serena of Living By Disney has a short IGTV video and blog post to help explain here. The Later blog also has a very thorough article here.
Second, someone asked me if she could avoid starting an IGTV channel. My answer is absolutely! There are SO many many ways to drive traffic. Don’t jump on this bandwagon unless it sounds fun and makes sense for your biz and the effort you’ll put into it.
Third. Want to know how you’ll make starting an IGTV channel fun? Here are two suggestions:
- Do it from your phone with easy apps. It’s all about VERTICAL VIDEO and your phone is made just for that – not your widescreen laptop.
- Start with Stories. Stories can truly be your gateway to mastering vertical video. It breaks down your clips into manageable 15 second increments. If you like what you did with a Story, you can save it in the moment to your camera roll or find it later on in your Archives.
You can also make it fun by not letting perfectionism get in the way.
AND by sharing what you do best – whether it’s serving realness, being entertaining, providing tips, etc.
BEST VERTICAL VIDEO APPS FOR YOUR IGTV CHANNEL
Alright, here’s the list (Disclaimer: I’m just giving my personal essentials. There are plenty more. If you have an important vertical video app I missed, let me know!)
QUIK (iOS, Android). If you follow me at all, you know I love this app! It’s great for combining photos and videos in flashy ways with tons of themes to choose from. This would be great for your IGTV welcome video.
To get vertical sizing, tap the wrench icon at the bottom > Format > Portrait.
To get vertical sizing, tap Canvas > 9:16 > move the slider or use your fingers to adjust your clip.
VIDEOSHOP (iOS, Android). This is another amazing full video editor app. What does it offer that InShot doesn’t (as of this moment)? The ability to layer videos on top of other photos and videos (use the Impose tool) and the ability to save your IGTV channel video projects. InShot only saves the one you’re working on. With VideoShop, you can work on multiple projects.
Productivity Hack: Set up a customized video template that you can duplicate for your future IGTV channel videos and save time!
To get vertical sizing, tap Settings in the toolbar > Portrait.
Vertical Video Animated Text Slide Apps
If you want some apps to get fancy and add some cool intros, outros, and animated text slide inserts throughout your IGTV channel videos, here are two suggestions I can’t live without.
(Video intro made with the Adobe Spark Post animation tool.)
ADOBE SPARK POST (iOS, Android). This is actually a design app. But it has a nifty animated feature that will turn any design into a four-second animated clip – perfect for engaging titles. Like VideoShop, it saves your designs. So once you set up one design, all your future animated titles will be a snap!
To access the animation tool after you create your design, tap Effects > Animation > choose an animation.
To get vertical sizing, simply swipe until you find Instagram Story.
RIPL (iOS, Android). Like Adobe Spark Post, you can only use photos in this app (usually up to 12 or so), but the animations provided are some of the best out there. It saves your projects as well, so creating future title slides will literally take seconds.
To get vertical sizing, simply select the vertical post size when you start a new project.
And don’t forget about Quik. Although it’s a stand-alone editor app, it also works great for great animated text slides as well.
Inevitably you may need extra photos or footage to fill in the background of your IGTV channel videos. Here are two suggestions:
Screen Recording. Don’t forget to take advantage of screen recording to share anything you want from your phone in your video. Find the tutorial for iOS devices here.
PICPLAYPOST (iOS, Android). This video collage app has done some major updating. You can fully edit video clips and I’m obsessed with their video and text transitions. You can also save multiple IGTV channel video projects. However, the in-app purchases are pricey, so you’ll have to decide if it’s worth it for you.
ENLIGHT VIDEOLEAP (iOS only). The only reason this app didn’t make first place in my list is because it’s for iOS only. But if I could only have one video app, it would be this one. The ability to layer multiple photos and videos on top of other photos and videos is just one of the many reasons I constantly have this app open. It also saves video projects as well.
Ok, have I given you enough to get started? I hope so! Please message me on Instagram if you try out any of these apps for your channel. I’d love to check it out!
